COVID-19 Rapid Testing

Austin ISD was the first to apply and receive approval to participate in the Texas Education Agency’s COVID-19 Rapid Testing project. Anyone who is teaching or learning on campus would have access to the rapid testing. We have received our first round of rapid tests from TEA. We will receive these distributions with additional personal protective equipment on a monthly basis.

Survey Results

The results from the most recent survey we sent to families with children in secondary levels are consistent with what we are seeing on campuses: districtwide, the majority of our students are choosing to stay in a remote off-campus educational setting. The students who are attending campus in-person are receiving the attention they require from their teachers and specialists who work with them.

Elizalde Letter to Staff

Dr. Stephanie Elizalde wrote a letter to staff following her Superintendent Report at Monday’s board meeting. In the letter, she outlined the above items as well as important information around TEA funding, staffing and the state of health in Austin. Read the full letter on our website.

Transitioning Between Remote and On-Campus

Austin ISD is proud to offer a choice between remote learning and face-to-face instruction for the 2020-21 school year. See below for the timelines regarding switching from one instructional model to another.

  • Transitioning from on-campus learning to remote off-campus learning will occur when a student/parent or guardian chooses to do so.
  • Transitioning from remote off-campus learning to on-campus learning:
    • The first request will occur as soon as possible, but not to exceed five school days.
    • The second request will occur at the beginning of the next grading period.

Coats for Kids 2020

Coats for Kids, sponsored by the Junior League of Austin and in collaboration with Austin ISD, is excited to provide warm winter coats to students across the district. Along with Jack Brown Cleaners, KVET, and KVUE, the Junior League of Austin will provide over 30,000 coats to Central Texas children.
